Venue
The International Joint Operations Command Conference 2009 is being hosted by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) at 61 Whitehall, London SW1A 2ET
Sixty One Whitehall is a beautiful Victorian grade II listed building, featuring unique design and room layout, and sits on the very site of the Tudor Wing of old Whitehall Palace. Adjoining the Banqueting House, it is the only part of the Palace to escape destruction by the London fire of 1698.
The main conference will take place in the Duke of Wellington Hall. Shaped as a shield, it has a high ceiling, beautifully restored polished wooden floor, large windows and a minstrel’s gallery.
The drinks’ reception on the evening of 15 July will be held in The Library above the Duke of Wellington Hall. Semi-circular in shape, the floor to ceiling book shelves overflow with precious books and a gallery running round the upper floor.
Location
Sixty One Whitehall is situated on the east side of Whitehall between Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square, adjacent to the Banqueting House. Westminster and Embankment undergroudn stations and Charing Cross underground and main line stations are all within five minutes walking distance.
Victoria and Waterloo main line stations are fifteen minutes by foot. Although parking in Whitehall is restricted, parking facilities can be found in Spring Gardens, Trafalgar Square and Great College Street, Parliament Square.
